Thanks for the links. The only hardware I can related with is the HeadAmp AE-2 (Portable Headphone Amp). I’m not much an audiophile, some of the item is listed as Amplifier and DAC only, does that means the Amplifier itself isn’t a Digital-to-Analog Converter? (Sorry, this may sound techies, but you seems to know more about the Amp and DAC than me)

Ahhh, I see.

As for amps, I have noticed some secondhand ones up for sale on the lowyat.net forums (http://forum.lowyat.net/Music&AudioRelatedAccessories). Also check these guys out: http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=586559. Lotsa amps (and other drool-inducing stuff) there.

Then there’s always the Fiio amps (E3 and E5). They’re not the best amps you’ll ever have, and certainly, if you have the budget, it’s probably a no-brainer to go for those aforementioned iBassos, but hey, at RM80-ish for the E5, it’s worth a try. Apparently they’re not at all bad. I read somewhere that they “provide 75% of the quality for 25% of the price”.

Better take the E5 over the E3, though. E5 has got a volume control, optional bass boost (E3 has a permanent one) and apparently doesn’t colour as much as the E3. I’m probably going to get the E5 eventually… I’d like a bit more bass from the RE2. It’s not bad, the RE2’s bass reproduction, but there isn’t enough. The EQ on my Zen, after more critical listening, kinda sucks.

I got Shure SE310 (http://bluetin.com/) as a travel kit, heavy on the bass, but good sound nonetheless. Still, I prefer the likes of Grado, Sennheiser (Sennheiser HD650 HeadPhones!) or Audio Technica headphones better — for “sedentary” music enjoyment. It’s hard to find a good headphone amplifier locally though — any idea?

I’ll be honest and say I don’t really know for sure. Don’t think they’ll be able to compete with the higher-end Shures. I did read a post on Head-fi, though, where the author mentioned that “many preferred the RE2s over the e3c”.

These RE2s are cheaper, too.

But man, if you’ve got around RM400, go get the RE0s from Head-Direct. They’re on sale right now, and apparently it’s one of THE IEMs to go for right now.
